While wandering around the neighbourhood and around the many archaeological remains of the Acropolis, you follow in the footsteps of our ancestors Socrates, Pericles, Sophocles and discover all those emblematic buildings and ruins.
Acropolis stands high above modern Athens and it is the greatest symbol of the city’s former glory, recalling the culture that ancient Greeks created more than two millennia ago
At the very top of Acropolis, you may find Propylaia which is the entrance. Looking ahead you can immediately see the Parthenon, this great architectural miracle that stands there for 2500 years. Erechtheion complex on the left, which is easily recognizable, statues of the Porch of the Caryatids.
Continuing your path at the slide your will note and enjoy Herodes Atticus of Marathon. From above you will have a splendid view over the theater. The name is in memory off the wife off who built it in AD 161. The theater was designed with an auditorium fitted into a natural hollow. Semicircular rows of seating could accommodate nearly 5,000 people.
If you walk down the hill you will defiantly see and be fascinated by Acropolis Museum is one of the must-see cultural attractions in Athens. The Museum opened its doors in 2009 and it is a state of art. Built about 300 meters away from the archaeological site, this incomparable museum contains one of Athens’ most valuable collections of ancient Greek art
Of course their many many more monument in the surrounding area that are waiting for you to discover.
Nightlife in Acropolis area is very vibrant. All along the (only pedestrian) area around the museum, you may easily find, all day and till late at night, bars- restaurants or cafeterias. Ethnic or Greek food is around the corner.
